Valaam Island is the largest in the Valaam archipelago of the North-Western part of Ladoga Lake. Valaam represents one the Russian church architecture monuments. The Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Monastery was founded by Novgorod citizens not later than early 14 century. Besides the Monastery you can visit here many sketes some of which are still inhabited.
